The Jazz - Arched Top By Jaydee
This is one instrument I have always wanted
to make but never found the time. Until someone came along
and commissioned me to do so. Then it was made possible for
me to try out different ideas, which has produced the current
model.
It is a small body, single cutaway 3" in depth from front
to back with a 22 fret neck. Joining the body at the 16th
fret, giving maximum access to the top register. The top is
carved from solid spruce and the back from book matched Brazilian
mahogany with mahogany sides.
The prototype had only one pick-up, which was a micro humbucker,
neatly housed inside the end of the fingerboard giving it
a natural uncluttered look. Connection to the pick-up was
made via a minature jack socket on the lower side of the neck.
The jack plug was connected to the scratch plate on the upper
edge, and by inserting the jack ,it also secured the scratch
plate and made the connection to the pick-up and output socket.
The tone and volume were concealed finger tip edge controls
on the lower side of the scratch plate, so it was an all acoustic
look but with the electric sound The bridge is fully adjustable
for height and octaves. Made from ebony with bone bridge inserts.
The tailstock (Trapeze) is a custom design, carved from solid
brass, giving the best optimum string angle over the bridge.
