The "Geezer Butler" striped custom bass By Jaydee
Geezer Butler of "Black Sabbath" commissioned this
bass in 1978. Only the second one of this shape to be made,
it was designed for short scale use. This particular instrument
was constructed by laminating square sections of maple and
rosewood together across the entire width of the body to form,
what looked like a giant humbug. It was then sliced into two,
to make the front and back sections. These were then glued
to a centre core of Brazilian mahogany before being machined
into the final body shape. The inlays were devils, cut from
abalone. The pickups were machined from solid black Perspex,
just to be different. There were no actives, just standard
controls.
